With each decade that the Toyota Camry has been on sale, it has improved and stayed at the cutting edge of the midsize sedan class. The 2021 Toyota Camry is no exception to Toyota’s rule of innovation, this is set to be one of the best model years this family sedan has ever seen.
Toyota has introduced numerous changes for the 2021 model year, including a new trim for the hybrid Camry, an exterior style refresh, new infotainment screens, new paint colors, and a new herringbone seat pattern for the XLE. However, one of the most celebrated updates for the 2021 model year is the introduction of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite, an enhancement of the existing Safety Sense 2.0 suite.
One of the updates to the system includes upgrades to the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. Now, this smart system can detect the car ahead of you, cyclists in the daytime, and pedestrians - even in low-lighting. There is also additional support for intersections, where the Pre-Collision system will intervene when you're making a left turn.
The suite’s Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) function has also been optimized for the 2021 model year. Now, stop and go traffic is even easier as the DRCC can slow your Camry down to zero mph and start it back up again from zero mph. Additionally, if you have the DRCC function on and you activate a turn signal with steering input to make a pass, the system will give you a slight boost in speed to help you pass a slower-moving vehicle in front of you.
The 2021 year model means that the Toyota Camry has been on the road for 37 years. As time has gone on, Toyota has always strived to be on the cutting-edge of the automotive world, and this year's model of the Camry exemplifies that. New additions for the 2021 model year include new exterior colors, an exterior style refresh, new multimedia screens, a deluxe herringbone pattern for the XLE’s upholstery, and a new trim level for the Camry Hybrid. One of the best changes for this year, however, is the upgrades to the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite.
One of the updates comes to the pre-collision system, which now has refined pedestrian and cyclist detection. Now, your Camry will be able to detect cyclists in the daytime and pedestrians in even low-light conditions. The system also has new support for intersections, where it can intervene when you’re making left turns to help avoid collisions with pedestrians and cars.
The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) has also been upgraded to slow down to zero mph when stopped and start back up again from zero. If the DRCC function is activated and the driver activates a turn signal with steering input, the system will provide a slight increase in speed to maneuver around slower vehicles until the preset speed is reached. Additionally, a Rear Seat Reminder feature is now standard on the Camry, which helps ensure that everything you put in the backseat is removed when you exit the Camry.
Inside the 2021 Camry, you’ll find yourself sitting inside an upscale retreat from the roads and world outside. Soft, premium upholstery is used in every trim level, and the XLE trim has an exclusive herringbone-pattern upholstery that provides an extra touch of luxury in the 2021 Camry. No matter which of the many Camry trims you opt for, you’ll be comfortable on each and every drive.
One of the other new features for the 2021 year model is the introduction of two new infotainment screens, one being 7 inches and the other being 9 inches. These vertical, floating screens offer audio and navigation features with smartphone-like icons on the touchscreen to make it even easier and more convenient to use. You can also equip your Camry with an available 7-inch driver information display in the instrument cluster and a 10-inch head-up display.
As always, the Camry has seating for five passengers between two roomy, comfortable rows. The Camry is ready to be a family car, too, thanks to LATCH tethers in the rear row. When you have stuff to store, the 15.1 cubic-feet in the Camry’s trunk offers plenty of space for daily essentials and weekend trips alike.
Though the Camry received a complete redesign a few model years ago, Toyota has given the exterior of this midsize sedan a refresh for the 2021 model year, making its looks even more dashing. The 2021 Camry has a new front fascia for the LE and XLE trims with a more defined lower intake space. The gasoline LE also has new 17-inch alloy wheels and the XLE has new 18-inch alloy wheels. The SE and XSE trims have a bold lower fascia, a honeycomb-style grille, new side-vent inserts, and new side-vent accents. The 2021 Camry is available in a multitude of brilliant exterior paint colors.
Powering the base trims of the 2021 Camry is a four-cylinder engine that's mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, offering quick acceleration and easy, fun driving. The XLE, XSE, and TRD trim levels also offer a 301-horsepower V6 engine for even more power. Both engines provide a stable ride and responsive handling, with a perfectly weighted feel to the steering that makes turns and tight maneuvers a breeze.
